John J. Gould – Councilman

Councilman John J. Gould was born in the Bronx and has been a resident of the Town of Haverstraw since 1960. He is a graduate of North Rockland High School, Rockland Community College, and Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He married Maureen Talamini in 1980 and together they raised three sons, John Jr., Daniel and William. John began his law enforcement career in 1974 and served as a uniformed Police Officer with the Town of Haverstraw and the Rockland County Sheriff's Patrol for eight years. In 1982 he accepted a position as a Detective with the Rockland County District Attorney's Office investigating major cases including the Brinks Robbery/Murder case. In 1988 he was promoted to Lieutenant. He has served as the Assistant Director of the Narcotics Task Force for eleven (11) years and currently as the Commanding Officer of the Computer Crime Task Force since June of 2000. He was appointed to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services Computer Crime Advisory Group and the Rockland Community College Computer Forensic Advisory Board. He has successfully completed over fifty specialized law enforcement training courses. In addition, he has received numerous awards and citations in recognition of his many accomplishments during his law enforcement career. In 1999, John was appointed to the Town of Haverstraw Zoning Board of Appeals where he served for eight (8) years including three (3) years as Chairman. On July 3, 2007, John was appointed to the position of Town Councilman for the Town of Haverstraw and was elected to a four year term in November of 2007. He presently serves as a Town Police Commissioner and Sanitation Commissioner. His committee assignments include Labor Management, Senior Citizens, Finance, Emergency Services and Parks & Recreation. He is a member of the Rockland Planning Federation, the Association of Towns of New York State and New York State Planning Federation. He has completed the Land Use Leadership Program at PACE University Land Use Law Center. John has been active in many community and civic organizations some of which include St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish, St. Gregory's Cornerstone, Haverstraw Elks Lodge #877, Former Vice Commander and current member of the Leo Laders Post #130 Sons of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Haverstraw Council #581, Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the North Rockland Sports Hall of Fame, the NAACP, Rockland County Shields, PBA of Rockland County, Rockland County Police Emerald Society, Fraternal Order of Police, Rockland County Detectives Benevolent Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and numerous other professional and fraternal organizations. In addition, John has served as a Manager and Coach with the Haverstraw Little League and as a Coach for the St. Gregory's CYO Basketball Program. He is a former member of the North Rockland Father & Son Association, the North Rockland Soccer Association, Just for Fun Baseball and the Rockland County Police Athletic League.
