John Kennedy Grant - Justice, Town of Haverstraw

 

Judge Grant was appointed Town Justice in July 2007 after serving as Village Justice in the Village of West Haverstraw. Judge Grant was elected in November 2008 and re-elected in November 2012, November 2016, and November 2020.

Judge Grant previously served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney for Rockland County. As Chief Assistant District Attorney, he oversaw the prosecutorial, investigative, and support staff. Judge Grant also served as Acting District Attorney, Senior Assistant District Attorney, and a Special Prosecutor for the New York State Organized Crime Task Force. Judge Grant had substantial trial experience, including the prosecution and trial of serious violent crimes, including Murder, Rape, Kidnapping, and numerous white-collar crime prosecutions. Judge Grant was the recipient of the United States Department of Health and Human Services Integrity in Prosecution Award for his prosecution of what was, at that time, the most extensive welfare and social service fraud case in New York State history.

Judge Grant has practiced law for more than 30 years. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section and Labor and Employment Section, the New York State Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section and Labor and Employment Section, and the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Judge Grant was admitted to practice law in the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department in 1988 after graduating from Pace University School of Law. He is the principal member of the Law Offices of John K. Grant, P.C., with offices in Nyack, New York, and Newburgh, New York. As a criminal defense and civil litigation attorney, Judge Grant has appeared in many local, county, supreme court and appellate courts throughout New York State. His practice is currently limited to Labor and Employment Law and Criminal Defense.

Judge Grant has been a member of or active assisting many youth and community organizations. He is a lifelong resident of Thiells. He is married to Jennifer Dichiaro Grant and has four grown children and one grandchild.
