Vincent J. Gamboli – Councilman
Councilman Vincent J. Gamboli was
raised in the Village of Haverstraw and has resided in the Town of
Haverstraw his entire life. He currently lives in Garnerville with
his beautiful wife, Carolyn. They have four children: Vincent,
Donna, Michael and Christine and nine grandchildren. He is a
graduate of St. Peter’s Catholic School in Haverstraw and Haverstraw
High School. He also graduated from the State University of New York
with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology and an
Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Building Construction. He
attended St. Bonaventure University Architecture School of
Engineering and New York University School of Engineering (evening
division). He also attended the CAD Program for Architecture. Vincent’s employment began in 1960 in the Rockland County
Highway Engineering Department. His duties included project engineer
for construction and design of highways, bridges, parking lots, and
drainage; cost estimating; writing of specifications for State DOT
funded projects; liaison for local funding between State DOT and
local governments; and Clerk-Of-The-Works for County projects and
preparation of preliminary drawings of highway department offices.
He was also a Free-Lance Designer where he prepared building plans
for new homes, additions, and alterations. From 1975 to 2003 he worked as the Building Inspector for
the Village of West Haverstraw. His duties included complete plan
review and inspection; review of site plans for Zoning and Planning
Boards and Chief Code and Ordinance Enforcement Officer. From 1987 to 2000 he held the position of Superintendent of
Highways for the Town of Haverstraw where he prepared and received
bids for highway resurfacing projects, equipment and materials;
prepared specifications and estimates for State funded projects; was
responsible for all records and maintenance of all police, park and
engineering vehicles for the municipality; design and installation
of drainage projects, fairways, etc. for the municipal golf course;
and all aspects of public safety for the public. From 2000 to 2003 he was Clerk-of-the-Works for the Town of
Haverstraw. His duties included renovation of the Philip J. Rotella
Golf Course, Haverstraw Ambulance Corp Building and the feasibility
study for the new police headquarters. Vincent was appointed to the position of Town Councilman in
2005 to fill a vacancy on the Town Board and was elected to the
position in 2006 for a 4-year term. Since becoming a Town
Councilman, Vincent has been involved with all aspects of Town
Government. Some of the community activities that Vincent has been
involved with are: Former member and Vice Chairman of the Rockland
County Soil and Water Conservation Agency and President of the
Rockland County Superintendent of Highways Association; present
member of the Italian American Club, Haverstraw Elks Lodge No. 877
and sons of American Legion Post 130. He has held the position of
Coach, Manager, Vice President and President of the Haverstraw
Little League and presently is an Honorary Life Member of the Board
of Directors. He was the Organizer and Moderator of the
Columbia Circle of Squires of the Knights of Columbus Council 581.
He was named Man of the Year by the North Rockland Father and Son
Association. He received the St. Don Bosco Award for service to the
youth of the community and received the Citizen of the Year Award
presented by the Haverstraw Elks Lodge #877. He has participated in
several committees such as the: St. Gregory Barbarigo Church
Renovation, St. Peter’s School Fund Drive, was Chairman of the
Haverstraw Little League “Save Our Field” Committee, was Chairman of
the Haverstraw Little League Financial and Building Committee for
the new concession stand, and has served on various fundraising
committees for the Marian Shrine.
