Johnny Ortiz began
his first term on the Haverstraw Town Council in
January 2020. He is originally from Tamboril,
Dominican Republic. He grew up playing
baseball every day. Johnny
arrived in Haverstraw in 2000 at the age of 31 and
embarked on continuing his higher education at
Farleigh Dickinson University,
earning his Bachelor degree in Liberal
Arts in 2013 and then his Master’s in Administration

employed at Zimmer Biomet since 2001, (where he met
his wife Marilyn Toro), and is currently the Mfg.

Councilman Ortiz is
proud to be the first Dominican to serve as
Councilman in Haverstraw and looks forward to being
able to continue his mission in life to help the
community he lives in. The values that his parents
instilled in him growing up made him the man he is
today.

the citizen’s advisory committee for the Village of
West Haverstraw, is a member of many community
organizations including, The Knights of Columbus,

This was such an honor for him and his family.
Johnny’s lifelong
passion for baseball has never waned and he still
watches it as much as he can on TV or at the ball
field.
